Joi review: the labs-first membership — priced in three separate pieces
Verdict
$50/month membership (billed $150 quarterly) + lab panels ($149–699 to start) + medication billed separately — realistically $100–150+/month all-in once a typical estrogen-plus-progesterone plan is running, before initial labs. Joi (the women's side of Joi + Blokes) is the most monitoring-heavy model in our comparison: live clinician visits and recurring hormone labs are the product. It's also the only one here with a lock-in: you can't cancel until after the first 3 months. Some prescribed products are compounded — not FDA-approved.
Recurring labs included 3-month minimum commitment Some meds compounded — not FDA-approved Cash-pay

| Membership | $50/mo | Billed $150 quarterly; covers clinician visits, recurring hormone labs, care-team check-ins |
| Initial lab panel — Complete | $149 | 65% off promo for new customers listed at verification |
| Initial lab panel — Advanced | $399 | |
| Initial lab panel — Comprehensive | $699 | |
| Systemic estrogen | $49–89/mo | Billed separately, ships quarterly; price varies by form |
| Progesterone | $54–69/mo | Billed separately |
| Testosterone injection | $59/mo | Billed separately; cannot ship to 16 states (see below) |
| Realistic ongoing all-in | ~$100–150+/mo | Membership + typical estrogen/progesterone plan; initial labs extra; NY & NJ priced differently |
Stack that against the alternatives: Winona and Alloy deliver a comparable medication plan for $63–128/month with no membership fee and no lab requirement, and Midi can put labs and visits on your insurance. Joi's premium buys the monitoring cadence — you're paying roughly $50/month for scheduled visits and repeat labs on top of market-rate medication. Full comparison in our HRT cost guide.
How it works
You start with a lab panel (blood draw), then a synchronous visit with a clinician who builds a treatment plan from the results. Membership covers those live visits, regular follow-up hormone labs, and coach/care-team check-ins; medications are billed separately per your plan and ship quarterly. Prescriptions can include compounded products — flagged on Joi's own product page as "not approved by the FDA." Testosterone, where prescribed, cannot ship to AL, AR, CT, DE, GA, HI, LA, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, OK, PA, RI, or SC, and Joi notes different pricing for NY and NJ residents. Cancellation opens only after the first three months.
Where Joi wins
- Recurring hormone labs and live clinician visits are included, not upsold per-visit
- Most data-driven cadence in the cash group — lab-test, adjust, retest
- Itemized medication pricing published ($49–89 estrogen, $54–69 progesterone)
- Steep intro-lab discount for new customers (65% off listed)
- Broader hormone formulary than the menopause-only platforms
Where it doesn't
- Three separate bills (membership + labs + meds) obscure the true monthly cost
- 3-month minimum before you can cancel — unique among providers we compare here
- Some products compounded — not FDA-approved
- Testosterone unavailable in 16 states; NY/NJ carve-out pricing
- Trustpilot/BBB reviews are mixed: refill-timing and upfront-commitment complaints recur
The fine print, honestly stated
Two things deserve a slow read before joining. First, the commitment: the $150 quarterly billing plus the no-cancel-for-3-months rule means your minimum spend is $150 of membership plus labs plus any medication shipped — know that before the intake, not after. Second, the formulary: Joi's own page discloses that some prescribed products are compounded and "have not been approved by the FDA." That's the same trade-off we flag at Winona — no FDA review of the specific product you receive — and it deserves a conversation with your clinician, especially when FDA-approved forms of estradiol and progesterone exist at ordinary pharmacies. Independent reviews also repeat a practical complaint worth planning around: refills sometimes arriving after the previous supply runs out.
Who should pick Joi
Women who specifically want the monitoring model — scheduled labs, live visits, dose adjustments off bloodwork — and will pay a membership premium for it, with eyes open on the 3-month commitment and the compounded-product flag. If you just want a straightforward HRT prescription at the lowest all-in price, Alloy or Evernow get there cheaper; if insurance can pay for visits and labs, start with Midi.
